The Guardian newspaper today released the results of a study that stated that 90 companies have caused two thirds of the global warming emissions on the planet...since the dawn of the industrial age... and that if these companies continue to develop their reserves of oil and gas the planet has about another 30 years before the survival equation changes significantly. (please refer to http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2013/nov/20/90-companies-man-made-global-warming-emissions-climate-change).
These companies include Exxon, BP and Chevron, along with state controlled and government run firms like Saudi Arabia's Saudi Aramco, Russia's Gazprom and Norway's Statoil. This report states that all 90 are responsible for the current climate crisis.
The article goes onto say that even though there are "thousands of oil, gas and coal producers in the world" you could actually fit all of their senior personnel, the CEO's, ministers, etc, into one or two Greyhound buses.
I actually have a suggestion as to where we can send these buses.
I think we should add a few more and include the families: wives/husbands, children, grandchildren and so on, just so that the fullest extent of their spouses, parents/grandparent's decisions could be personally felt, and send them into the geographical terrain that they have decimated through their explorations and their greed. I think we should let them live there for a time and observe the great calamity they have brought to the Earth, the wildlife and to the human populations which in the fullness of time, will include themselves, and their loved ones.
And while this is taking place, let the rest of us come up with a cogent and life-affirming plan about how to reverse the damage to our planet before it is too late.
