I found it interesting that while the US and the world watched the horrific flooding of Houston, barely any mention was made of the more devastating flooding that was occurring in India that led to over 1200 deaths. And I'm willing to bet that "recovery" and "restitution" in that beleaguered part of the world is not as forthcoming, especially financial aid.
At the same time as the floods, political refugees were being massacred in Myanmar and some 80,000 were forced to flee, leaving misery and the human wreckage of their lives behind them.
The US and its media are self absorbed. There is no perspective of the larger picture of our global humanity. If one part of the web is rent, then we all suffer. We all need to collectively take responsibility for each other, no matter the color of our skin, our religious affiliation or where we reside in the world.
We hope that a country of the size and magnitude of the US wakes up so that they can assume the mantle of compassionate leadership once again.
