I remember an opening quote to a book by Morris L. West that I read when I was a child (paraphrase): "And we carve on the walls of our cave the joys and the nightmares of our spiritual experience."
I am reminiscing about my own personal totem, styled as it is in the manner of West Coast First Nations People, whose entire lineage, stories and myths are encoded in the totem which becomes a living breathing document honoring of their tribe, and their people.
My totem is made from rose quartz, my own Lascaux cave, and it contains all of the experiences, the laughter, the tears, the successes and the failures, that make up who I am today. It is a beautiful totem and I polish her every day.
When I think back to a period of my life when I was sad or when things didn't work out the way I thought, then I remember Dr. Masaru Emoto's lessons about how you can change the quality of a crystal through your thoughts. By way of explanation, Dr. Emoto conducted many tests water crystals whereby he breathed love and light into a crystal and it glowed. He then breathed hatred and enmity and the crystal became distorted. So I know that I have the power to back to those moments and days of distortion and offer forgiveness and Light to that moment, and my rose quartz crystal will alter to accommodate this change.
As we are our own creators and as each of us works diligently on our own totems, as we work to eradicate darkness from within us and strive towards the Light, hopefully over time our great sentinels will rise up above the effluvia and the hatred that is now so prevalent upon the Earth. I see all of our crystal totems/sentinels rising up so that if one were to view us from another star system or galaxy then one would marvel at all of the Light upon the Earth, Light that gives everyone hope. Light that is a beacon of transmission between Heaven and Earth.
This is the time of Hope, this is the season of Love and Light. And when we turn away from all unnecessary distractions and turn to polishing our own totems, to painting on the walls of our own personal caves, then perhaps we are giving ourselves the greatest gift of all. One that can be truly shared as a gift of inestimable value.
As one is lifted up, so are all.
