This was a fabulous weekend for me in so many ways. I am a creative and have been trying to find a marriage between my photography and my painting, and this weekend brought me closer.
As well, I met with wonderful dear friends, who are filled with a lot of light and optimism and their world radiates with their dreams and intentions.
And today, after quite some time, I went whale watching, ending up in a zodiac with people from the Netherlands and Belgium, funny, irreverent, collegial and I was completely adopted by them as we saw orcas, humpbacks, sea lions and eagles together.
And then, a strange thing happened in the midst of all of this. At one juncture in my weekend I walked past a beautiful cathedral and a strong intuition told me that I needed to go inside. I am not a church goer, but I love this particular space. It is filled with light and great peace. As luck would have it, it was also filled with the sound of a young musician practicing for a classical music concert to be held in the church that night The sound of her violin was rapturous and filled the space perfectly. It was like having a private recital. I love the violin and I especially love classical music and so this moment was absolutely sublime for me.
This was interrupted by a man (a minister, I supposed) who wanted to test the sound system of the church in preparation for an upcoming sermon. His voice boomed loudly from the lectern as he read a passage from St. Paul's letter to the Ephesians which stated that it behooved them to enjoy this time on earth, but to be vigilant and abstain from drunkenness because the times that are upon us are filled with great evil. He repeated this line about three times.
At first, his words didn't register. They seemed at odds with the perfection that I had been experiencing this weekend (and overall), and the utter magic and wonder that is emerging around me, a world that is being experienced by so many. And then it occurred to me that many of the churches are also in 3D. They are embracing the same old world rhetoric that we see around us in the media and in a society that is intent upon perpetuating the status quo, even though it is harmful and injurious. And is no longer tenable.
Believe me when I say that I respect everyone's need to find truth in their own way. But if the churches continue to embrace a philosophy that is outdated by 2000 years, they will never ascend to the world that is emerging now.
They will ultimately fall to the wayside.
