Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein was, until recently, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. In today's New York Times there is a video where he decries our heads of governments as "weak, shortsighted and mediocre, and no longer willing or able to defend human rights." And after you watch the video, it would be difficult to disagree with him.
The due date for our believing in the possibility of many governments being moral has come and gone. Their agendas preclude caring about the human populace they serve. Instead, they serve their own power and the vested interests that support that power. It is up to all of us to hold them to accountability, to shine a light on their actions, and to demand change.
As Jeshua said, "Whatsoever you do to the least of these, you do to me."
