In November of 2017 this painting, attributed to Leonard da Vinci, was sold to a Saudi buyer, and news sources have tracked the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as the ultimate buyer. The painting is of Jesus and it is entitled "Savior of the World.
I just finished watching the documentary, The Dissident, about the murder and ultimate dismemberment of Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi Embassy in Istanbul in October 2018, an act that led to the releasing of my novella. This was a well planned murder and unfortunately for the Saudis, and fortunately for those in the world that are committed to justice and freedom of speech, the only "bug" the Saudis did not sweep out of the conference room in the embassy where he was murdered, was the one that tracked audio. It is an excruciating and heart breaking account of a systematic murder by those who were close to the crown prince, and yet he claims that he knew nothing of this.
This documentary is very insightful at another level, as it depicts the machine the Saudis have in place to hack and record phone conversations, and track people, like Jeff Bezos as an example, owner of the Washington Post, where Jamal Khashoggi worked.
How can a man that purchases a painting that depicts the Master of Peace, Love and Forgiveness on one hand, descend to despicable acts of barbarity and cruelty on the other?
