In the four days leading up to Friday the 13th our company joined a global phenomenon in the corporate world called "Love Week."
Each of us was given a sum of money by our CEO and then we were assigned Humans that we had to shower with love and appreciation for the ensuing four days.
As Secret Angels, and this also included some people who worked remotely, we could use our imagination giving gifts to people in the company that we really didn't know at all, and we were generally matched with those from from different departments. I work for an Information Technology research & consulting organization but I am in no way a techie...in any sense of the word, I work with our non profit clients only. So my Human, for instance, was located in the bowels of the building, he was a software programmer, which was absolute Martian as far as I was concerned, and the cross-overs between department ensued for many others as well.
Most people leaped at all of this from day one and others, picking up on the incredible energy that started percolating throughout the building, soon followed suit. I was not only a Secret Angel but I was also the appointed Photography Angel as well, so I saw firsthand how people were being transformed.
People moved from being taciturn and absolutely NOT INTERESTED in being photographed to phoning me at all hours of the day saying their Angel had just visited them and could I come down and photograph them? One guy, very shy, would have nothing to do with my camera but by day three, with cool heart shaped red shades on and a stuffed penguin on his shoulder, he practically pointed the camera at himself...ripping it out of my hands.
What an amazing metamorphoses as I (and everyone else) watched the entire company change.
My Angel? Every day I would receive the most exquisite poetry, about my smile, my happiness or my joy, and it was accompanied by the quirkiest of gifts, like wacky ostriches, or "fortune cats" and flowers.
On the last day (yesterday,) the names of the Angels were revealed before our grand "ta da" in the board room, and I could hear laughter and squeals of disbelief as we all took note of who was lovingly taking very good care of us.
My Angel? He was the head of IT.... who knew?? A man I have exchanged maybe five words with all tolled, although we smiled at each other a lot, leaving our silos intact. I can assure you that this will change in the future as this man's heart and love of the beauty of words matches my own.
The barometer of this week, extending outward from the CEO's office and into all departments, meant that wewere all prepared for Valentine's day, no matter whether there was a love in our lives, or not. We had each been well loved, and by complete strangers.
