.This weekend, I disconnected. No news, no updates, no media. I don't have a phone so no intrusions whatsoever.
Nature smiled on us gloriously. We live in a RAIN forest (let me emphasize this) and so rain it did, endlessly to the point where I talked to my team after work on Friday as we settled into Indian food, Foosball and card games that even though I really love the rain, I WAS OVER IT!!!!
When I went to walk home, there were pink tinged clouds and blue sky and the sun shone for the next two days.
So on one day I went down to the ocean, which is really just down the street from where I live (everything is in walking distance here) and I sat and watched the waves come in and go out, laughing with kids, dogs and everyone who had a "don't dare to ask me to take off this smile" kind of expression on their faces.
On Sunday I went to one of our parks, big old trees, flowers emerging, like the crocuses you see here, soft west coast light on the trees, as though a world of magic had emerged to touch all of us in the park at that time. I had many aha-ha moments with Mother Earth as she softly allowed me to photograph her beauty, knowing that I would be sharing this with the world.
And you know something? Not once did I tap into a fraught world carefully designed by the media to keep us in a state of suspension and fear. Therefore it does not exist for me: no tyrants spewing their anger and rage over the air waves, no vacuity, no viruses, no pain at the ascension of leaders who may not have the best interests of their citizens in mind....they simply did not exist.
Think of the world we could all create if we tuned out the old, tired rhetoric of a bygone age, and just went to the park with our family, our friends and our kids.
