Yesterday I walked home along the waterfront of this magnificent city. A light sprinkling of rain was suddenly pierced and illuminated by the sun, and a rainbow appeared in the sky lighting up the opposite shore and its houses with the pinks, blues and yellows of her radiance.
When I got home, I went out onto the balcony with a glass of wine. My home provides and eagle's eye view of the mountains, slightly snow capped, Stanley Park and Lost Lagoon. I am above the fray of traffic, and if I want to I can live in a parallel world that Nature provides, wheeling and diving, joyous birds, the imperturbable mountains, the richness of the trees, being lit here and there by the sun.
And for the next little while, I watched Nature dance.
I saw the clouds, pink-tipped, start to consort with the mountains provocatively. I saw the sun capture the seagulls in flight, piercing them with a blinding purity as they soared past the increasing darkness of the treeline.
I saw the ethereal majesty of the water, sun, trees and mountains unfold a theater for the senses that money could never buy, and this city is imbued with it, the bleating horns of distress and angst beyond my periphery. The jaw-dropping beauty of Nature right in front of me.
And at that moment I realized how truly blessed I really am.
What radiant and perfect joy!
I am wealthy beyond measure.
