In the aftermath of 2016, can we say that Martin Luther King's dream, not only for African Americans but for all people, has come true? Have we created a world of dignity and grace where all are welcomed equally, with great profundity and respect, into the human family?
Further, are we electing leaders that will provide unity to this great dream, coherency, or are we bringing to power, through our own actions, those riven with discord and divisiveness?
How close are we, as a nation, as a world, to the embrace of all, without exception?
Martin Luther King believed in "soul power". He did not believe in the use of physical force to overturn unconscionable regimes. In this, he reflected the great influence of Gandhi. In this, he reflected the teachings of the greatest social revolutionary of them all, Jesus himself.
We must never underestimate our power. We are powerful Beings who make powerful decisions. We must always hold our leaders accountable, especially as we were the ones that brought them to power in the first place.
We must NEVER give our power to them in return.
