Today was an absolutely stunning summer day. We have a lot of tourists in town now and as I walked towards the center of the city I saw a young couple coming towards me hand in hand. The woman was pristine, perfectly dressed and coiffed and she had a plastic lea of colorful flowers around her neck.
Another young woman walked in front of me. We west coasters are pretty laid back in just about everything, including dress. The woman in front of me had a ball cap on pulled low, a long pony tail, muted colors, jacket, long pants and I heard the young couple say to each other, "they have no sense of fashion here do they", smiling their brilliantine smile.
In that moment I was reminded of Susan Boyle's first appearance with Britain's Got Talent. She appeared on the stage to smirks and cat calls. She was middle aged with frizzled brown hair peppered with gray, on the large side. The young couple today would have definitely classified her as being on the wrong side of fashion.
But when she opened her mouth to sing "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables, a selection in and of itself quite poignant, everyone went into shock. The passion, the beauty and the power of her conviction and voice was the only thing you saw and heard.
When are we going to move away from "beauty on the outside being everything"? Beauty on the outside means absolutely nothing if the rest of the being is vacant or missing in action. Especially now, because if that's all you've got going for you you're in big trouble.
Who cares what we look like! Do you hear us? Do you really see us?? Do you feel our hearts? My New Earth does not consist of the fripperies of ego. External form in and of itself means nothing to me unless there is an underlying foundation also present: one that consists of true beauty, truth, compassion and...love.
Let us transform into something greater than our egos please. The ego is the servant of the soul, not the other way around.
