I just started reading the Philokalia, which means "love of the beautiful". It is a compilation of texts from the 4th and 5th centuries that inform Eastern Orthodox Christianity and reveal the schism between the two.
The split revolves around the notion of an "Indwelling Spirit" promulgated by this faction of Christianity and the Gnostics.
Who all believed, as did Yeshua, that God lies within. "The Kingdom of Heaven lies within," (Luke 17:20-21) and "Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?" (John 10:34).
The canon of doctrinal law that won the day during the time of Constantine promulgated a belief that Yeshua came to save us and by believing in him (and surrendering to the Church at the same time) we will attain salvation.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Yeshua came to remind us of our great power within and our connection to Source and that, in fact, we do not need the edifice of the church, at all.
The Roman Catholic Church succeeded in gaining power over the hapless for generations and while there has been much good along the way, there has also been tremendous corruption and evil, coupled with the almost complete eradication of the Divine Feminine. Mary Magdalene, portrayed as a whore by Catholicism, was known in the Gnostic Literature as the one who understood Jeshua's teachings more that the others. She was called "The Apostle of the Apostles".
The Eastern Orthodox Church and the Gnostics captured these teachings closely. We are all responsible for who we become and if we give our power away to a religion, a government or a world organization then we must live with the consequences of that decision.
Everything is being exposed now. One may choose to continue to follow a religion like the Catholic Church but the temples of the future will not be found there.
They will be found within.
