I work with non profits and charities in the US South predominantly. My organization assists 501C3's to keep their doors open financially so that they can continue the good work they do: educating the young, feeding the elderly and the infirm, caring for the disabled and those who have suffered from domestic violence, providing housing and dignity to the homeless, assisting returning veterans, keeping arts organizations alive, and so on.
Trying to assist them to keep their doors open has become more important today because these are the organizations that the federal government has turned their backs on....through budget cuts and in some cases, in the elimination of funding completely.
So we have this interesting phenomenon: we have a president that turns his back on those who need his attention the most to put his money into spying on his people, among other things. We have a nation of government/corporate leaders who purports to wave the flag of Christianity, largely, and yet ignores the important dictum of Christ in the gospel of Matthew where he states, before consigning the "righteous" to hell for turning their backs on the naked and the sick, and the vulnerable, that whatever they did to the least of these his brothers and sisters, they did to him.
What do we call this deliberate neglect of the vulnerable and the infirm? We can engage in sophistry and verbal "sleights of hand" and call it many things: " fiscal prudence, balancing the budget", etc., we have all seen the vocabulary of governments and corporations who are run by PR firms and spin doctors to justify their questionable, and in some cases despicable behavior.
I prefer to call it "genocide", or the deliberate disregard and contempt for those who are most in need in a way that places their lives in a state of dire risk.
