When this noble lion was savaged in such a cruel way, it became clear to many of us around the world just how wrong we have been in our understanding of the relationship between the human world and that of the animal kingdom.
We have unfortunately inherited a rather tragic dictum within the Christian tradition that tells us that "God" commanded us to "subdue the Earth" and rule over all the creatures of the deep, those that roamed upon the Earth and in the oceans and streams.
Is this what the Divine commanded?
Have we forgotten our true relationship to the animal world. What if they are actually here to be our teachers, and our friends, to show us how to be in harmony with all of Nature, and therefore with God? Early civilizations knew this. Our First Nations people revered their connection with nature and the animals, and if they took their lives for food, they blessed them for their sacrifice.
Did this so-called "hunter" bless Cecil.?
Why was such nobility destroyed by such profanity?
And are we going to allow this to continue?
