I read an article today called The End of Empathy that talks of society's increasing inability to feel the suffering or the struggles of another or to in fact, care at all. The number of people who feel this way, according to the article, is increasing.
If this is the case, then the ones we should feel alarmed about, empathetic towards, are those who have lost the ability to feel. Because that means that, ultimately, they have lost touch with themselves, with their souls and hearts, so much so that they can't feel their own pain too. At all.
In this "Holy Week" for the Christians that leads up to Easter Sunday it has become important for me to remember Jeshua's statement, "Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do."
In saying this I believe that he meant, "Forgive them for they know not what they do to themselves". For every act of omission, or cruelty or neglect, or murder (murder in every form, and this can be in a careless word, gossip, sarcasm as well as in its literal sense) is really an act that the perpetrator commits against themselves which will have long term consequences beyond their ability to understand at the present time. Every thought we project and every act that we commit comes back to us.....and quicker now than ever before.
This is not divine retribution, it is quantum mechanics.
We all live in the midst of the worlds that we have created for ourselves. We can blame no one else for this.
